project 1 / 1 1

Lichen

Birch veneer, high density foam, ultrasuede.

One modular curve creates the shape and structure of this chair. The shape is simple but it does not immediately call to mind chair. The exact shape of the chair is dictated by the way the curves naturally interact with each other and fall into place.

project 2 /11

Mussel

High fire stoneware, colored slip.

A simple lamp with a playful inside. The dots are made from colored slip. I created this technique after realizing that this method of pigment application still retains some structural properties of clay.

project 3 / 1 1

Filoplume

Ash vener, poplar.

Filoplume is an experiment in non-traditional ways of bending veneer. Instead of using a jig to bend each strip of wood, the sculpture itself is the jig. The strips of wood support one another and come together to activate a large space with little material.

Salmon Run

Cold rolled steel, high density foam, ultrasuede.

Pure comfort. A chair designed for people who like to move around and sit in different positions.

Audiophile

Music is primarily and audio experience but there are many components that go into creating or enhancing that experience. Some of these components are the visual artwork of albums and some are the tools that are used to project music. I noticed areas where a few of these components could be improved.

Benthic

High fire stoneware, colored slip.

Visually simple, exciting to the touch and pratical.

project 7 / 1 1

Kalevala

An experiment in porcelain slipcasting. I wanted to see how I far I could push the porcelain material in terms of scale and stretch it to its thinnest tolerance.

Tumblers

High fire stoneware.

A collection, each one with their own personality.

project 1o / 1 1

Stratum

Turned walnut.

The processes of woodturning and throwing clay are remarkably similar. I took a technique used in throwing clay on the wheel and applied it to turning wood on the lathe. The experiment resulted in a convenient jewelry organizer.

project 11 / 1 1

Jewelry

Found objects, resin.

Jewelry is a form of expression that has the ability to say a lot. Found objects have a story and a life to themselves. It is this quality of found objects that make them an ideal materials to work with in a jewelry piece.
